Real estate services are not limited to selling your house, listing your house, and buying another house. There are so many more services than just those. For example, if you cannot seem to sell your house on your own, ask a real estate agent for a fair assessment of why he/she thinks you cannot sell your house. Here is what the agent might find and tell you that can help you sell your house faster.
Curb Appeal Could Use a Boost
People are funny. They love to see pretty houses from the road, and they really are not too picky about what is on the inside if the outside lures them in. They might be pickier after they see the inside, but if the outside just does not yank them from the street and invite them in, they will not even stop. If the real estate agent's first bit of advice is that your home and property could use a boost of curb appeal, delve into that deeper. Find out what currently makes a house appealing from the street, and then see if you can add some of those features without spending too much extra money.
Landscaping Needs Work
If your property looks more like a forest overran your yard and there are fallen dead trees with high grasses, wildflowers, and weeds, you can bet buyers are going to drive right on by. To you, it may be a slice of wilderness heaven letting things grow wild everywhere, but to the buyers, it looks like a lot of work that they will never be able to manage. Hire a professional landscaper to clean up the yard and trim everything back just enough to make it look tidy.
Rooms in the House Look Dated
Some people like the "vintage" look. Most do not. Unless you hit upon that one buyer that thinks your home is a perfect tribute to the post-WWII era and likes it, you will never sell your home. Try to make some updates. Even kitchen cabinet refacing and a change of door/drawer hardware can really make a difference. Repaint a few rooms neutral colors, and hire the real estate agent to stage a few rooms so that buyers can see the real potential that the house has. The less dated it looks, and the more convincingly contemporary you can make it look, the more likely buyers will be interested.
